Week 11

After a relativelly quite week, my weekly schedule became much more active. It all started with a Halloween party on Thursday night. I know it was far too early but the Asians didn’t care about the date. Anyway, we got some costumes; I was disguised with a Scream mask, a friend was disguised as V from V for Vendetta and my roommate came as Hannibal Lector. We already thought that everybody will have a mask or be running around as the killer from Scream. In fact we were the only one who covered their faces. So I kept my mask until 2 o’clock in the morning even though I sweat like a pig. It was really funny to play with people especially with people I knew but who didn’t recognize my under the mask.

On Friday it went on with a evening in the movies followed by a very interesting discussion.

On Saturday we decided to have dinner in Geylang. Under tourists this cantonment is mainly known as the red-light-district of S’pore. Locals, however, like going there for their dinner because of the numerous food stalls all around. It was really impressing to see the main street full of people and small restaurants on the left and the right. Surprisingly you could hardly see any sign of prostitution. We choose a restaurant and ordered some dishes and also the local speciality: frog legs. They were quite tasteless and the constancy was a bit like fish. Not so tasty was to see how the frogs are being prepared… On our way back to town we asked the cabdriver where all the hookers were. He explained us then that you have to go into the small crossroad and depending on national preferences you have to choose the street because each street is housing working girls from a particular country.

On Sunday we went to a small water park close to school. The entry fee was only 2$ but we quickly found out why it was that cheap. There were 3 slides and one of them was even closed, a whirlpool without real whirl, a wavebassin with waves of a height of about 30cm and a channel around which was supposed to have a stream. In order to glide down the slide, we had to rent blow-up rubber tires that we also used to turn our rounds in the stream-channel our record was 4min10sec for one round without accelerating….

Nach einer verhältnismässig ruhigen Woche, stand mal wieder viel Programm auf meinem Wochenplan. Angefangen hat es mit einer Halloween-Party am Donnerstagabend. Ich weiss, es war noch nicht Halloween, aber das war den Asiaten so richtig egal. Auf jeden Fall besorgten wir uns Kostüme, ich war mit einer einfallslosen Scream-Maske verkleidet, ein Freund als V aus V für Vendetta und mein Mitbewohner als Hannibal Lector. Wir hatten schon gedacht, dass alle solche Masken haben würden, doch das war falsch. Wir waren wirklich die einzigen mit Gesichtsmasken und ich behielt meine auch bis um 2 Uhr morgens an auch wenn ich hinter der Maske geschwitzt habe wie die Sau. Auf jeden Fall war es sehr interessant ein wenig mit den Leuten zu spielen, vor allem mit den Leuten, die ich kannte, sie mich aber nicht erkannten. Am Freitag ging es weiter mit einem Kinoabend und einer interessanten Gesprächsrunde. Am Samstag entschieden wir uns nach Geylang zu fahren. Bekannt ist dieses Viertel bei den Touristen als  Rotlichtmilieu, bei einheimischen ist es aber auch ein beliebter Ort zum essen, da es viele Foodstalls hat. So war es denn auch, an der Hauptstrasse gab es viele Leute und viele Orte zum Essen. Zu unserem Erstaunen waren aber keine Prostituierte zu sehen. So assen wir am Strassenrand die Spezialitäten zu denen auch Froschschenkel gehören. Die Froschschenkel hatten nicht so viel Geschmack und das Fleisch war sehr Fischähnlich. Nicht so geschmackvoll war zu sehen wie die Frösche zubereitet werden…. Im Taxi Richtung Stadt fragten wir dann den Taxifahrer wo denn hier jetzt die vielen Dirnen sein sollen. Er hat uns dann aufgeklärt und gesagt, dass man dafür in die Nebengassen gehen müsse und sich je nach Nationalität, die man gerne wünscht, eine bestimmte Querstrasse begeben müsse. Am Sonntag ging’s in einen Wasserpark nahe der Schule. Der Eintritt war 2$, und so präsentierte sich der Park auch in etwa. Es hatte 3 Rutschbahnen, von denen 1 Geschlossen war, ein Sprudelbad ohne Sprudel, ein Wellenbad mit 30cm Wellen und ein Kanal darum mit einer Strömung. Zum die Rutschbahnen zu benutzen mussten wir aufblasbare Gummiringe mieten mit denen wir auch im Strömungskanal Runden drehten, unser Rekord war 4min10s ohne einmal zu beschleunigen…

Après une semaine relativement tranquille, il y avait bcp plus sur mon horaire de semaine. Ça commençait avec un Halloweenparty. Je sais que c’était bcp trop tôt mais les asiatique s’en fouettaient. Comme ça on s’est organisé pour être déguisé ; moi sans idées comme la masque de Scream, un ami comme V dans « V for Vendetta » et mon colloque comme Hannibal Lector. On avait pensé que chaque deuxième gars allait être déguisé comme ça. Mais en réalité on était les seuls qui avait couvert leurs visages et moi j’avais gardé la masque jusqu’à deux heure le matin même si j’ai transpiré comme un cochon la derrière. Ça ma donné la magnifique possibilité de jouer un peu avec les gens, surtout avec les gens que je connaissait mais qui ne me reconnaissait pas du tout.Vendredi soir on est allé au ciné suivi d’une discussion intéressante…Le samedi on s’est décidé d’aller manger à Geylang. Parmi les touristes, ce quartier est connu comme le milieu de Singapour. Mais pour les locaux c’est aussi un magnifique endroit pour aller manger avec tous ces petits restaurants au bord de la route. Et c’était vraiment magnifique de voir la route principale avec tous les restos. Etonnement il n’y avait presque aucun signe de la prostitution ici. On s’est posé dans un des nombreux restaus et on a commandé quelques plats et aussi la spécialité locale : les cuisse des grenouille. Elles n’avaient pas trop de goût et la consistance était un peu comme du poisson. La préparation des grenouilles était bcp plus dégoûtant. Sur le chemin pour aller en ville on avait demandé le chauffeur de taxi ou se trouvait toutes les prostituées. Lui il nous a dit qu’il faut aller dans les petits rue transversales et qu’il faut aussi faire attention quelle nationalité qu’on préférait. Car chaque nationalité de pute occupe certaines rues.Dimanche on est allé dans un aqua-parc prêt de l’école. L’entré était seulement 2$ et on voyait tout de suite pourquoi aussi peu. Il y avait 3 toboggans dont un était fermé, un jacuzzi sans bulles d’air, un bassin avec des vagues d’une hauteur de 30 cm et un canal autour qui fallait avoir un courant. Pour utiliser les toboggans on devait louer des annaux gonflables qu’on a aussi utilisé pour faire nos tours dans le canal. Notre record et 4min10sec pour un tour.
